Drum Corps Leadership & Scholarship Application

PAISOC aims to promote diversity through scholarship and programming. The Drum Corps Leadership and

Scholarship program seeks to recognize current and future student leaders of color in the marching arts and

broader performing arts world. Our goal is to first provide leadership mentorship to recipients that allows them

to learn and discuss how to become and stand out as positive role-models and leaders in drum corps and beyond.

This includes a series of video meetings with our board members before, during, and after the drum corps

season. Second, we aim to provide up to $1000 in scholarships to pay for drum corps tuition and other fees.

Lastly, members of our program are expected to be ambassadors of PAISOC, meaning that they will positively

represent and advocate our efforts to promote diversity in the performing arts.

In addition to being accepted into our leadership program, PAISOC will award one $1000 scholarship and a

$500 scholarship. Priority will be given to students who are from Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts,

and New York. We understand that the financial scholarship is a major incentive for applying, but we will accept

up to five students for leadership training, though we cannot guarantee a scholarship for everyone.

  • Applicants MUST be students of color (e.g. Black, Latinx, Asian-American, Pacific Islander, or Native American).

  • Applicants must contracted to march with a Drum Corps International (DCI) or Drum Corps Associates (DCA) member (and it will be verified by a member of the board).

  • Applicants must be 16 to 22 years of age.

  • All applicants must be willing to meet with members of the Board of Directors for leadership training before, briefly during, and after the performing season.

Everyone must complete their application on google forms in full (click me). Please note the minimum word

requirements (200 words) on some short answer questions. We strongly suggest downloading a copy of the

application to work on your answers in your own Word file, and then copy and paste into the google form when

you’re ready to submit. (Sorry that we don’t have an online application portal, but we want to save the money to

give it away instead.)
